PIN WHEEL CARD #2

This is the second card I made with this "technique".  I am much happier with this card!  Instead of using colored card stock for the base of the smaller squares, I simply used white card stock.

PIN WHEEL CARD

I've seen these cards a lot of times and couldn't figure out how they were made so i went to Youtube and found a great video.  It is so simple!!!  The video gave the measurements for the pieces.  I was off and running............well not running but cutting.  This was my first try and to be honest I'm not real fond of the color combination although the papers did come from the same dp pack.  Tomorrow, I will show you a smaller version of this with the second card I made.  It is another great way to use those small scraps of papers that are just too hard to throw away.  If you aren't mailing your card, a button in the center is a great addition, but a small punched circle lays nice and flat.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thank you Pinterest!  I don't know who made the card that was posted, but I loved it.  I have so much dp from Stampin' UP! and it is time that some of it gets used!  This didn't take very much of it though.

My card is only different from the one I saw because I used a different leaf and used a wider strip of black card stock.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAIME GOMEZ!

In 2012 my husband I made another trip to the Grand Canyon.  It is absolutely my very favorite place to vacation!  We had never been to the North Rim before so after staying on the South Side for a few days, we spent one night on the North Rim.  That evening we were visiting with a couple of travelers who we met on one of the walking trails..  One was from Minnesota and the other was from Spain.

After a couple of encounters with them and watching the sunset with them, we were asked where we were headed next.  We were heading to Zion National Park and since that was the same general direction Jaime was headed they asked if we would consider giving him a lift.  We NEVER give rides to hitchhikers!  I'm not sure why we did but it was a great decision.  We enjoyed our time with him so much.  It was only a few hours but we remain in touch now and then.

His sister recently contacted me through Facebook.  Jaime had been traveling all over the United States and other countries.  During his travels he made a lot of friends so his sister is encouraging as many as she can to send him a video or birthday card for his 40th birthday. He has since settled down, has a baby boy and teaching in the UK.  This is the card I mailed to him.

I doubt very much we will be picking up any more hitchhikers any time soon but this is one time that it worked out very well.  Jaime was so considerate with us.  To thank us he sent a wonderful book about the area in Spain where his family is from.  I hope he receives many, many greetings from all over the world!

ANOTHER CARD WITH SCRAPS

When I pulled out the Stampin' Up! Cherry on Top pack of dp,  I discovered several small pieces of the patterns and found a card similar to this on Pinterest.  The card I saw mounted the dp combination on SU Pool Party or Soft Sky card stock.  It does appear to be one of the colors in the dotted dp, but I'm not real fond of it with the brighter colors.  I'll have to rethink this one if I do it again.

USING CARD STOCK SCRAPS

I just hate throwing any paper scraps away if there is any way to use them.  Recently I had some of the SU Cherry On Top papers out and had some small pieces left.  I had also seen cards on Pinterest that used them in a woven design.  At the time I thought it wold be too fussy trying to get them put together.  WRONG!  I spaced the red strips vertically and added just a small piece of adhesive to the top edges of all three.  Then using one strip at a time I added the top one by adhering just the left hand side, weaving and then taping it down.  The last two were added the same way.

This fun style can be done with so many different combinations.  And what a great style to make with colors and prints that would be appropriate for the men and boys that are hard to do.

STAMPIN' UP! - Pick a Petal #2

A few days ago I started pulling out some of older wood mounted Stampin' Up! sets.  This is one of the sets that I was considering selling at the time.  I went to Pinterest and found several cute ideas. I really like the way this one had the SU "grassy" area behind it. Although the stem and leaves are very similar to the one I saw on Pinterest, if I do another one, I definitely want a different stem and leaves that are more proportionate to the flower.

THANK YOU, ANNIE!

Recently I received a wonderful "Happy Spring" card from my Canadian friend, Annie!  She even enclosed stamp off's that were embossesd with gold powder.  I chose similar colors to color the two designs she sent me and then mounted them on coordinating colors of card stock.  Isn't this design cute?  Like Annie, I popped the bird houses with foam dots.

I showed you this card a few days ago but after taking the picture that I posted, I added the little butterfly.  I really like it much better now.

Easter Sunday we had perfect weather here.  The temperature was 70 degrees and just a light breeze.  I hope those of you who stop by here to visit had a wonderful day too!  Thanks for coming by today!

EASTER CARD #7

A few days ago I posted the picture of an Easter card with a cross on it that two friends and myself made for a nursing home.  This is the card we made for the staff  at an independent living center to give to the residents.  The stamp is SU "Blessed Easter".

When we meet to make these cards, I have everything cut and ready to go.  Normally the mats I use for designs are a narrow color.  I really liked the boldness of the wide red frame on this one.  The tulips were colored with Copic markers.

After making 97 cards for the nursing home and independent living center as well as 26 other cards for Grandchildren and others, I'm ready to move on to some new designs.

EASTER CARD #5 & #6

These two cards will go to sisters.  The cute little bunny peeking over the edge is a Darcie's stamp.  I stamped and cut out the bunny's feet and popped them up with foam dots.  I matted the Darcie's "Happy Easter" with shiny gold.  Hearts were cut out with Spellbinders heart dies.  The little jelly beans and egg designs were stamped from a Lawn Fawn stamp set and cut with the coordinating die set.  All the coloring was done with Copic markers.

EASTER CARD #3 & 4

Several years ago I purchased these stickers in Des Moines when our group gathered and then kept hoarding them instead of using them.  These two cards will go to our two youngest Grandchildren.

EASTER CARD #2

Card #2 for one of the Granddaughters was made using a stamp set from Penny Black.  I used four stamps from the set:  chicks, basket, bunny and "chicks rule".  I thought she would get a kick out of the "chicks rule" being added.  The designs were colored with Copic markers and I added little touches of "grass" with a marker under each of the designs..  "Happy Easter" is a stamp from Darcie's.  The design was matted with a narrow border of SU lavender card stock and then added to a turquoise card base.

EASTER CARD #1

Today's card is the first of Easter cards for our Grandchildren that I will be posting this week.  This cute design is from Darcie's and I have had it for a long time.

I stamped the design and colored with Copic markers.  I added the sentiment carefully by using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to make sure it was centered and even.  The SU lavender paper went well with the tulips so I cut the mat to 4" x 5 1/4".  I realized that there would be a border at the bottom of the mat so I embossed it with the Swiss Dots folder and added a scored line above it before adding the stamped design to it. (The scored line doesn't show up very well in the picture.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEORGIA

Georgia is a member of our Yahoo group and today she is celebrating her birthday!  I made made this card a few weeks ago and knew that I wanted it to go to someone special.   Georgia is special.  :)  I hope she is having a really great day!

This is a Tutti design die that I used.  I cut it from white card stock and colored it with Copic markers.  It was cut with "Stick-It" backing on the card stock.  After adhering it to the card base, I inserted the large piece of white that would have been discarded back into the design.  It was the perfect place for a nice vertical sentiment.  The sentiment stamp is from The Stamp Barn, a Canadian stamp company.  Because I really like the sentiment and the font,  I also have the same sentiment in a horizontal format.  (I'm afraid the sentiment doesn't look like it is perfectly straight.)

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I'm always happy to help if I can.  Thank you for stopping by today!

STAMPIN' UP! - Pick A Petal

This was an easy card to do.  I always like black and white cards with a little color added.  I stamped the petals and cut them out.  I used the smallest Spellbinders circle die to cut a center for the flower.

When I started to assemble the card I had a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of the black dotted designer paper.  FIrst I put the flower center on the card with a glue dot which left the edges of the yellow piece loose.  The petals were added with a short strip of adhesive on the back side of the large end and tucked under the center of the flower.

The border was made with a Martha Stewart punch.  After I took the picture, I thought it needed a final touch so I added a little yellow butterfly made from the same paper as the flower center.  (Can you imagine seeing it?)

EASTER CARD by Taryn

Our youngest granddaughter (age 10) LOVES making cards and every time she is here she wants to play with my things.  When it comes to dealing with the Cuttlebug, she needs no instructions.  She's been making cards with me for several years. She even teaches her older sister what to do when she is here too.

This isn't the best picture, but she chose a light pink card stock for her base and then embossed the design around the edge with a Stampin' Up! folder.  The tulips were done using colors of her choice and are from a SU set.

She also has to decorate the inside of her card which is pictured below.  She nearly always begins with "making grass" with a Martha Stewart punch.  The designs below are all stickers that I had and I told her to use whatever she wanted to make her own design.  Of course if you have grass you have to have a sky so she stamped a hot air balloon and rainbow and then die cut two clouds.  She colored the hot air balloon and rainbow with the same colors she had used on the tulips on the card front.   It is so fun to see what she comes up with.

CUTTLEBUG ANNA GRIFFIN DIE

This card was an experiment.  I have used this die before but in a much different way.  The white card stock was added to a  "Stick-It" adhesive sheet and cut using the Cuttlebug.  After cutting, I colored the entire piece with Copic markers.  After peeling off the backing of the adhesive, I adhered it to the white card base and then sponged an SU ink which happened to match nicely with the light coral color on the flowers.  There was a little space at the bottom that looked like it need a tiny sentiment.

To be truthful, I'm not "in love" with this card.  Your opinions are always welcome though so feel free to tell me what you think.

STAMPENDOUS - Flower Cross

Recently two friends came to our home and we made cards for a nursing home where we know many of the residents.  We made a simpler version of this card for the staff there to hand out to the residents..

To simplify we did not add the layer of embossesd dots.  We also colored the flowers with a light lavender and matted with the same color.
