USING DSP STRIPS

On January 23, Rita Holme had a video showing how to do this.  She had used the new SU large circle dies but I don't have those.  The largest one I have didn't fill up the card as well as I wanted but this is the one I made first after her video using retired dsp.

Since I didn't have a large enough circle, I decided to pull out one of my Spellbinders oval dies and tried it again using different retired dsp.  This one fills the front of the card much better.  It was a fun card to make.

GARDEN WALK BIRTHDAY CARD

My friend, Carol, had a birthday on the 23rd.  I'm afraid I was a little delayed in getting her card to her.  She lives across the alley from us so I finally delivered the card in person.  She opened it while I was there.  I obviously was in a hurry to get the belated card to her and she laughed...........I forgot to sign it.   So goes the days of my life.  lol

I hadn't made a card with this layout in a long time but I really like the way this one turned out.  I fussy cut a small flower from one of the other sheets to add to the popped up panel with the sentiment.

USING FAVORED FLOWERS DSP

I like this Woven Star design done with the "banner" behind it and in a vertical orientation.  These colors are so rich and I used ivory card stock instead of white for this one.  This will be the last quilted card for a while...........at least I think it is.  Just too much fun!

QUILTED "X'

I wasn't going to post this card because it is an "Opps".  I had intended to make it like the others that I had shown earlier.   However, I "quilted it" before adding the four little squares in the corners.  Then I saw something somewhere and they referred to and "X" quilted card...........so I guess my goof wasn't a real mistake after all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNIFER!

It's hard to believe that we are actually old enough to have a daughter who will turn 50 today!  This is the card we gave her.  Last Saturday evening we managed to give her a surprise birthday party at their local pizza parlor.  She knew that her husband, her sister, two nieces and my husband and I were going to be there.  Her oldest daughter was our waitress (which meant a really good tip) and son were working so they couldn't sit with us but two of her other daughters also joined in the fun.

What she didn't know though was that Jennifer's sister had arranged for 6 of her high school classmates who have remained very close all these years to show up for the party too.  They had sent a variety of videos to one of the classmates and had them compiled into one presentation which brought tears.  Of course there was a tiara, flowers and gifts...........and to embarrass her we sang Happy Birthday.

Today's post is just about showing all of the different looks you get by just changing up the dsp that you ouse to make these cards.  Here is a link to make this:  Woven Star Quilt Card

TWO BOOK BINDER QUILTED STARS

This pattern makes a square layer and is perfect for the Book Binder card layout.  This particular pattern is more tedious but still not hard to make.  However, I was so eager to get it put on to a card that I forgot to "quilt" it with an embossing folder before adding the Mossy Green layer.  The dsp on this card is from the "Garden Walk" pack.

Since I discovered that it wasn't all that hard to make, I wanted one that actually had the quilted look so I made the one below.

I stepped this one up by adding sheer ribbon around the "binder" portion before adhering that section down.  This card is probably going to go to my sister as a birthday card and I'll include a bunch of cards with quilt designs on them.  She has made many real quilts for the Linus Project.

QUILTED WOVEN STAR

The Quilted Card group on Facebook has a pattern for this "quilted" piece.  It is so easy to make and so much fun!  I have made 18 of this particular pattern using retired SU designer papers.  I'll be showing more!

After the pieces are put together, the layer is embossed with a folder to look like stitching.

Thank you for stopping by!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAM!

This card was send to a high school friend of mine who is celebrating her birthday today.  The card is going to be late getting to her but I don't believe she ever checks out my blog so I think this is safe.

I hadn't used the Avant Garden stamp set in a very long time and I saw a card on Pinterest using the set.  I like how it turned out.

FLIGHT & AIRY dsp

This designer series paper is one of the FREE items available during the current Sale-A-Bration.  The patterns are just gorgeous!  I saw THIS card on a YouTube video so I wanted to try to create one myself.  The little bird was fussy cut from one of the sheets of paper.  When I had finished I knew I wanted to send it to someone special.  One of our daughters has a friend who is curently going through Chemo treatments.  They have been friends since school days.

QUILTED CARD - LEMOYNE STAR DESIGN

A few days ago I discovered a Quilted Cards group on Facebook.  Boy, have I been having fun!  There are two other designs that I have made but this is the most recent.  These are such a fun way to combine various patterned papers.  Just changing one of the colors changes the look entirely.  Below I will show you what I mean.  The card below will only serve as a template for future cards since I discovered that some pieces need to be made using non-directional designs.  You will note that two of the triangles have a pattern that is going the wrong way.

Making these can be a bit addictive!  I've already made almost 2 dozen with the various patterns and using a lot of  scrap pieces from retired papers.

STACK, CUT AND SHUFFLE

These three sheets in the Poetic Expresions dsp just begged to be used together and what better way to do that than doing a Stack, Cut and Shuffle technique with them.  I made these a few days ago and I can't remember why I chose to add the narrow strips of BoHo Blue to the first two cards but I like them.

For all three cards I used the Heartfelt Hexagon stamp set and punch.

After I had the pieces for this one all glued down, I decided to flip it 180 degrees for the pieces to show in a different angle.

For the last of the three cards, I used a different sentiment from the stamp set and used the other frame around it.

MEANDERING MEADOW DSP

Very easy card to make using the Meandering Meadow dsp.  The scenery on these papers are just beautiful!  For this type of fold, a "belly band" helps to keep the card closed.

This card was modeled after a card I saw on Susan Campfield's video.  I don't have the Stippled Rose stamp set so I used the stamp from the Blessings of Home set which worked out just as well.  I have the Stippled Rose dsp but preferred just embossing a piece of Pebbled Path card stock with the Painted Texture folder.  I wasn't sure if I liked the Pebbled Path color when it was introduced, but it has grown on me.

SOFTLY STIPPLED DSP/STYLISH SHAPES DIES

I am loving the colors used on the Softly Stipled designer series papers......these are Calypso Coral and Pebbled Path.  While going through posts on Pinterest, I saw this card.  I had the right papers but didn't have the stamp set which Lesley had used on her card.  I decided to try using a stamp from the Hand-Penned Flowers.  I think it worked well with this design too.  I really like this card.  Using circles makes a fun backdrop for a design.

MEANDERING MEADOWS DSP/FANCY FOLD

On January 2, Rita Holmes had a video showing how to make this card.  I'll include pictures of how this card is supposed to open at the end of this post.

I have the Meandering dsp that she used so I chose a sheet to make a similar one.  When she demonstrated how to assemble the card, she added the inside before working on the outside panels.  On the inside there is a strip of the same dsp down the left side of the panel.

When I started to work on the outside of the card, I didn't realize I had added the inside panel upside down which meant that MY card was going to open  just the opposite of Rita's. The strip inside is directional so it dictated the rest of the layout.  IF (and I mean IF) I make another one of these cards, I won't add the inside panel until the front is done.

Below are two pictures of the way this card was intended to be made:

Since I was taking a snapshot from the video, it was hard to get the best pictures.  It doesn't show but Rita had a narrow strip of the dsp on the left hand side of the panel inside the card.

SAY GOODBYE TO AWASH IN BEAUTY DWP

These will be the last two cards I made using scraps of one of the designs in the package.  I still have the stamps but not sure if I will even use them. It feels so good to be able to toss the packaging from this set of paper!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TERRI

When I made this card before Christmas, I knew I wanted to save it and send it to a friend for her birthday because she loves dragonflies.  I saw something like this on Pinterest.

MORE FUSSY CUT AWASH IN BEAUTY

I believe I will probably stamp a sentiment somewhere on the open white area.

I will add a sentiment to the white area when I decide how I will use this card.

I had seen a card made by Wanda Pettijohn using the fussy cut flowers along with the Stampin' UP! "Split Card Textures" die.

The idea for this one also came from Pinterest.

AWASH IN BEAUTY

This post includes two similar cards.  I fussy cut all of the floral designs from the one sheet that I had left of this package.  The blue design was a scrap from that collection that I used for a background of the flowers.  When I want to use these cards, I may stamp a simple sentiment on the blue dsp.

Inside

Once again there is room for a simple stamped sentiment to be added on the front.

And here are the final four cards you get from  this  video by Karen Titus.    I may try to do this with some papers from some other collect...
